Arshad Nadeem wins gold in the javelin and Neeraj silver in the Paris Olympics – updated

Paris: At the Stade de France on Friday, Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem became the new Olympic champion with a record throw of 92.97 meters, while Neeraj Chopra achieved his season’s best of 89.45 meters to win the men’s javelin silver.

Neeraj, a gold medal list at the Tokyo Olympics, made his lone valid throw on his second try. He made five other foul throws. Actually, Nadeem’s throw that won him the gold medal was made on his second try; on his last try, he broke the record by another 90 meters.

Nadeem also made history by being the first track and field athlete from Pakistan to win an Olympic gold medal and to record two throws of more over 90 meters.

Neeraj’s silver medal also marks India’s first-ever second-place result at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. Chopra becomes the first track and field athlete from India to win two Olympic medals with his silver.

Neeraj also made Olympic history by becoming the third Indian athlete to win back-to-back individual medals, following Sushil Kumar (2008) and PV Sindhu (2016, 2020).
